About Mike

A short bio of Mike's art experience

Mastodon

Michael is a self taught artist, who started his carving career at the age of 12 in Hay River North West Territories, Canada. At this time, over 45 years from his start, Michael now makes finely detailed sculpture using a wide variety of medium including antler, bone, mastodon tusk, metal and stone ranging from soapstone to marble.

He has shown work in the 1995 Sooke Fine Arts Show and several group shows in his native Canada including 'Hidden Space' in Sooke British Columbia, 'In The Arts' in Victoria British Columbia and 'The Art Factory' in Whitehorse Yukon. Michael has won awards for his work in competitive meets such as the Qualicum Beach Ice Carving Competition (shown to the left).

Mastodon

Michael has been a member of the Vancouver Island Sculptors Guild and the NorthWest Stone Sculptors Association. Mike is also and alumni member of the Victoria Artist's Co-Operative.

Besides what you'll find on this site, Mike is also a web programmer specializing in online database interaction (this site and many others). For many years Mike ran a Handyman/Contracting company having up to 6 employees at one point. Inventing is also a hobby and you can find his invention site at Anconn.com.
